Council Minutes - August 20, 2026 - Special Meeting Budget Workshop

SPECIAL MEETING COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS

CITY OF GRANT, NEBRASKA

August 20, 2026

 

Mayor Lisa Schmitt convened the special meeting of the Council of the City of Grant, Nebraska in open and public session on August 20, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. Notice of this meeting was given in advance by publication in the Grant Tribune Sentinel, the City’s designated method for giving notice, August 13, 2026; The notice of meeting was also posted in advance at Pinnacle Bank, Grant City Hall, and the U.S. Post Office, and to members of the City Council; a copy of their Acknowledgment of Receipt and the Agenda are attached to these minutes. Availability of the Agenda was communicated in the advance notice and in the notice to the Mayor and Council of this meeting. All proceedings hereafter shown were recorded while said meeting was open to the attendance of the public.

Mayor Lisa Schmitt announced the posting of the Open Meetings Act and its location.

Roll call:  Present Council members:  Kimberly Bishop, , Sims, and Mayor Schmitt. Absent Council members:  Andrea Brueggeman and Tierney Petersen.

Others present:  City Superintendent Derek Brueggeman, City Clerk/Treasurer Jessie Faber, et al.

The motion was made by Bishop and seconded by Sims to approve the agenda as presented.

Roll call vote:  Yeas – all present. Nays – none. Yea – Mayor Schmitt. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Sims to approve the minutes of the August 11, 2026 meeting and waive the reading and seconded by Bishop.

Roll call vote:  Yeas – all present. Nays – none. Yea – Mayor Schmitt. Motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS:

Budget Workshop for FY 2026-2027 Budget – Discussion took place on the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 Budget. Tracy Cannon with AMGL P.C. was available by phone to answer questions about the budget and discuss how an increase or decrease in the levy rate impacts the budget. No Action Taken.

 

Action and Discussion on Setting the Proposed FY 2026-2027 Tax Asking for the Budget Hearing – A motion was made by Sims to set the proposed FY 2026-2027 Tax Levy at .40 cents for the Budget Hearing ( $401,158.00 for the General Tax Asking and $10,000.00 for the Debt Service Tax Asking for a Total Tax Asking of $411,158.00) and seconded by Bishop.

Roll call vote:  Yeas – all present. Nays – none. Yea – Mayor Schmitt. Motion carried.

 

Action and Discussion on Approval of Reporting Tax Asking to County Clerk and Selection of Representative for Exceeding 2% Plus Real Growth Joint Public Hearing (if Necessary) –

A motion was made by Bishop to table the Approval of Reporting Tax Asking to County Clerk and Selection of Representative for Exceeding 2% Plus Real Growth Joint Public Hearing (if Necessary) to the August 25, 2026 meeting and seconded by Sims.

Roll call vote:  Yeas – all present. Nays – none. Yea – Mayor Schmitt. Motion carried.

 

Mayor Lisa Schmitt adjourned this special meeting of the Grant City Council at 8:47 P.M.
