COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS

CITY OF GRANT, NEBRASKA

May 8, 2023

 

                Mayor Lisa Schmitt convened a meeting of the Council of the City of Grant, Nebraska in open and public session on May 8, 2023 at 7:00 p.m.  Notice of this meeting was given in advance by publication in the Grant Tribune Sentinel, the City’s designated method for giving notice, May 3, 2023, and members of the City Council and a copy of their Acknowledgment of Receipt and the Agenda are attached to these minutes.  Availability of the Agenda was communicated in the advance notice and in the notice to the Mayor and Council of this meeting.

Mayor Lisa Schmitt announced the posting of the Open Meetings Act and its location.

Roll call:  Present Council members:  Bishop, Brueggeman, Petersen, and Mayor Schmitt.  Absent Council member: Sims.

Others present:  City Superintendent Edward Dunn, City Clerk/Treasurer Jessie Faber, City Attorney Tawna Holmstedt, et al.

The motion was made by Brueggeman and seconded by Petersen to accept the agenda as presented.

Roll call vote:  Yeas – all present. Nays – none.  Motion carried.

A motion was made by Petersen to approve the minutes of the April 24, 2023 meeting as presented and waive the reading and seconded by Brueggeman.

Roll call vote:  Yeas – all present. Nays – none.  Motion carried.

 

COMMUNICATIONS:  City Superintendent, Edward Dunn informed the Council of the upcoming board meetings, the cemetery board will meet tomorrow at 5:15 p.m. and the library board will meet May 10th at 5:15 p.m. Dunn let everyone know that the Bike Ride Around Grant (BRAG) will be held on May 16th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dunn gave an updates on the downtown revitalization project and the lift station rehab project  has been completed.  Dunn will be attending the MEAN meetings in Kearney on May 17th and 18th.

 

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS: 

Council member, Petersen – none. Council member, Bishop – and Dunn gave an update on the planning commission meeting. Council member, Brueggeman –gave an update on the Arbor Day Celebration activities.  Council member, Sims – none.

 

ENFORCEMENT, SHERIFF & WATER REPORTS – Acknowledged as received.

Discussion on Mayor and Council Wages Comparison – The council discussed the Mayor and Council wages comparison tables. No Action Taken.

 

Action and Discussion on Selection of Firm for the Rewrite/Revisions to the City of Grant Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Code (Recommendation from the City of Grant Planning Commission to select Miller & Associates Consulting Engineers, P.C.) – A motion was made by Brueggeman to select Miller & Associates Consulting Engineers, P.C. for the Rewrite/Revisions to the City of Grant Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Code in the amount of $8,500.00 and seconded by Petersen.

Roll call vote:  Yeas – all present. Nays – none.  Motion carried.

The motion was made by Petersen and seconded by Brueggeman to approve the Bills and Claims in the amount of $198,031.98.

Roll call vote:  Yeas – all present. Nays – none.  Motion carried.

 

Bishop, Brueggeman & Petersen reviewed the bills and claims prior to the meeting.

 

Mayor Lisa Schmitt adjourned this meeting of the Grant City Council at 7:17 P.M.
